Finding Cinderella

Chapter 2 Summary

Daniel arrives late at Six’s house and explains that he’d been hiding from Holder, who was at Sky’s house. As they prepare to leave, Daniel grabs Six and hides them against the door because Sky is standing at her bedroom window. They agree that it will be fun to hide their date from their friends. They crawl from Six’s porch to Daniel’s car. Daniel says that Six might get dirty, and she dismisses his concern. She agrees to a more casual barbecue restaurant instead of sushi. Daniel loves that Six is not afraid of getting dirty and is open to his plan.

At the restaurant, Six tells Daniel that she has four older brothers. Her full name is Seven Marie Jacobs, but in retaliation against her parents for moving her to Texas when she was 14, she began calling herself “Six.” As they talk, Daniel keeps waiting for Six to reveal her fatal flaws, but he finds none. Six laughs that Daniel has nicknamed his younger sister “Chunk” and wonders if it is bad that Daniel has not given her a nickname yet.

Daniel admits that he is having trouble finding a nickname for her because of her mysterious personality—despite her “promiscuous” past, she does not “seem like the type who needs a guy’s attention” (35).
